Details
Includes: Wooden box, spoon, 10g of incense (approx. 10hrs), ash, L-shaped plate, plate
The wooden box and spoon are both made from a single piece of Aomori Hiba. The ash is also made from burning Aomori Hiba. The incense is made from dried Aomori Hiba leaves.
How to use
Spread the ash in the wooden box and tap the wooden box lightly to settle the ash. Flatten the surface of the ash with the L-shaped plate. Put a little bit of incense on a brass plate. From the plate, place the incense on top of the ash so that it forms a line with the spoon. When you light the edge, a unique scent spreads along with gentle smoke. If you want to enjoy the scent even more, you can enjoy it for a long time by making the incense into a spiral shape. After the incense has burned, it will turn into ash, so please smooth it out with the L-shaped plate.
*Do not use in windy places, do not lay the incense near the wooden box.
The ash is spread in a box made from aomori hiba, and the incense leaves are placed on top with a spoon in a line and then lit.
Story
The Aomori Hiba is native to and is one of the three most elegant tree species in Japan. The other two tree species are the Kiso Hinoki (a species of cypress) and the Akita Sugi (a species of red-cedar).
Enduring the harsh cold wind in Northern Japan, the Aomori Hiba grows slowly within a beautiful environment. In addition to its exquisite bark, the tree is famous for having a strong endurance against corrosion and is an excellent building material. As the Aomori Hiba also has high antibacterial and insect-repelling properties, its timber is also used for building shrines and temples. Historical architectures such as the Chūsonji Konjikidō in Iwate Prefecture, the Hirosaki Castle, the Iwakiyama Jinja Rōmon, and the Osamu Dazai Memorial Museum (also known as the Shayōkan) use this timber to withstand the flow of time and remains until today.
Products in Tokyo from Hiba found in Aomori.
